Mercer, PA (December 22, 2012): Soon after Santa leaves town, attentions will turn to Mercer Raceway Park for the annual winter racefest, the Jack Frost 150 Enduro and the Snowflake 25! The racing will be held on Saturday afternoon, January 5, 2013, rain or shine. Of course, a little snow would make things interesting.
Gates will open for the fun-filled winter event at 10 a.m. on January 5. Racing will begin at 1 p.m.
Ticket prices for the Jack Frost 150 will be just $7 for adults, $3 for students and $18 for the family pass. The family pass is good for up to two adults and four minors. As usual, though, children ages 8 and under are admitted free. Pit passes will be $25.
The annual event attracts a mix of amateur and veteran drivers. Last season, Rick Hall, a regular in the Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modified division, made his first start in this race. Late in the contest, Hall was chasing down the leader, enduro ace Tim Gillette, when his car broke down. Gillette scooped up the cool one thousand dollar pay-off. Now, Hall wants a shot at redemption. Maybe the 2013 edition will be the one!
Trooper Tim Callahan, a member of the Pennsylvania State Police, will get to start on the pole for the Jack Frost race, as he was the first to get his entry in. He’ll be doing double duty, too. Before the Jack Frost goes to the post, he will get to start the Snowflake in his Mini Sock.
Entry forms can be obtained on the website, www.mercerracewaypark.com or by calling the track office, 724-662-1310. Entries should be sent to the track office, P.O. Box 577, Mercer, PA 16137. Remember that entries submitted before December 31 will cost just $50, which will also cover the cost of admission for the driver and the scorer.
Then, on January 19, Mercer Raceway Park will officially close the book on the 2012 season. That is when it will present the Annual Awards Ceremony and Banquet at the Normandy Banquet Center, located in nearby Hermitage. Tickets can still be obtained by contacting the track office. For just $30, you will get a sumptuous buffet dinner, beer and pop, dancing to a DJ, and the chance to mingle with all of your favorite drivers!
The 2013 racing season will kick off with the Chiller Thriller, on Saturday March 30, 2013. Watch the website and media outlets for further details.
