Mercer, PA (July 19, 2014): Steady rains overnight and continuing into raceday inundated the track and grounds at Mercer Raceway Park forcing a cancellation of the Racing for a Cure Night. The event benefiting the American Cancer Society will be made up at a later date.
Next week, the speedway will host a pair of racing programs. July 26 will feature a Saturday Night Live! event. Sunday, July 27, will be the make-up date for Smackdown!, round two of the contest between the Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modifieds and the BRP Modified Tour.
The 410 Sprint Cars presented by Luxaire Heating & Cooling and McCrudden Heating & Supply will top the card on July 26. Unfortunately, current points leader Jack Sodeman, Jr., will miss the action, as he is recovering from a broken leg suffered while racing at another area speedway. The staff and management at Mercer Raceway Park wishes him a speedy recovery.
Lonny Riggs will lead the Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modifieds into the ring twice next week. Saturday, he will square off against the rest of the clan, but Sunday will bring the BRP Modified Tour back for an exciting 35 lap feature that will pay $1500 to the winner! Come out and see if Riggs, or one of the other track faithful, can defend the turf again.
The Precise Racing Products Stock Cars will also see action twice next week. Saturday’s race will be conducted under normal track rules and procedures. Sunday’s program will be held under the Open Stock rules, as that will be the debut of the Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series at the speedway.
The Bonnell’s Rod Shop Outlaw Sprint Warriors and the Rock Concrete Modified Lites will be the other two classes doing double duty next weekend. The Mini Stocks will go to the post just once, on Saturday, for Eperthener’s Auto Wrecking and Ray’s Racing Collectibles.
Regular event ticket pricing will apply for the Saturday Night Live! program. Sunday’s Modified showdown will have special event pricing in effect. Gates will open both nights at 4 p.m., practice will be at 6:30, and racing at 7.
