(Mercer, PA May 18, 2016): If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, again. Well, this Saturday Mercer Raceway Park will do just that. After suffering three consecutive rainouts–including the annual visit of the Arctic Cat All Stars Circuit of Champions–the racers will attempt to complete a Saturday Night Live! racing program on May 21. “We are hoping that the forecast will be favorable,” said track owner Bill Altman. “Everybody wants to see a good race!”
While there has been a paucity of programs at the popular speedway, the racing has been highly competitive, especially in the pair of Sprint Car classes. Brandon Matus and Brandon Spitahler picked up the wins in the 4 Your Car Connection 410 Sprints, while Andy Priest and Jacob Gomola scored in the Bonnell’s Rod Shop Outlaw Sprint Warriors. These pilots, and many others, will be on hand this week to battle for the gold and the glory.
Jimmy Holden has had his way in the Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modifieds. However, Kyle Fink was second on both occasions that those racers appeared on the docket, so you cannot count him out.
The orange crush is still on in the Precise Racing Products Stock Car division, as every feature winner in 2016 has had that bright color on his machine. Brent Johnson, Leigh Wheeler, and William Hurrelbrink have graced victory lane. Can Terry Wheeler or Curt Bish continue the trend?
A pair of Shanes, Pfeuffer and Webb, have triumphed in the Rock Concrete Supply Modified Lites. Surprisingly, Mark Marcucci, who was nearly unstoppable in 2015, has yet to get rolling. Will this be the week for him to regain the winning form?
Todd Hanlon has been the class of the field in the Mini Stocks, which are presented by Eperthener’s Auto Wrecking and Ray’s Racing Collectibles. He has three tallies, including the Snowflake 25, which does not count towards the season championship.
The newest addition to the Mercer Raceway Park lineup, the Elder Tractor Sales & Service Junior Sprints, have gone to the post twice and victories were chalked up by Chase Metheney and Ayden Cipriano.
Remember that the the racing will start this week at 5:30, with heats and features for the Elder Tractor Sales & Service Junior Sprints, the Eperthener’s Auto Wrecking and Ray’s Racing Collectibles Mini Stocks, and those Rock Concrete Modified Lites. Then, at 7 p.m., the remaining divisions will proceed with their preliminaries and features. That action will be the four star attraction, the Precise Racing Products Open Stocks, the Bonnell’s Rod Shop Outlaw Sprint Warriors, the Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modifieds, and the 4 Your Car Connection 410 Sprint Cars.
The pit gates will open at 4 p.m. for the competitors. The spectator gates will open at 4:30 p.m.
Regular event ticket pricing will prevail this week. That means that adult admission will be just $13, seniors (60+) will be $11, and students (9-15) will be $5. Children (8 and under) will be admitted for free. The economical Family Pass will be available for $28, and that applies to two adults and up to four minors of any age. The Pit Passes will be $30.
If you cannot make it to the track this week, be sure to attend the two special events coming up over the Memorial Day weekend. On Saturday, May 28, the Mo Vaughn Transport Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series will perform their unique dirt track magic. Fans just love to see the Sprinters racing without their wings! Then, get ready for the sound and the fury of the All American Spring Nationals Truck and Tractor Pull on May 29. This popular contest will be sponsored by Ritenour Equipment Co. It is a Full Pull promotion.
