(Mercer, PA August 17, 2016): Sprint car fans are in for a special treat this Saturday, August 20, at Mercer Raceway Park. There will be head-to-head competition between the speedway’s Bonnell’s Rod Shops Outlaw Sprint Warriors and the Fremont Attica Sprint Tour 305s. It will be the first time that the F.A.S.T. racers will cross the Pennsylvania state line to race on the tricky oval. Will the Mercer regulars have a home court advantage? You’d better be there to witness this historic event!
A big field of cars is expected.
Andy Priest and Jimmy Seger will be among the local favorites, along with Mike Marano, II, Rod Jones, Gregg McCandless, Mike Miller, Darin Gallagher, Eric L. Williams, and Greg Dobrosky. Add in racers like Jacob Gomola, George Englert, Vincent Dougherty, and C.J. Jones, and the Mercer faithful will have plenty of talented drivers to root for.
Cody Bova, the 2015 champion at Mercer, has a foot in each camp. He has split his track time between Mercer Raceway Park and the F.A.S.T. circuit. So, if he goes to victory lane, which team will he pledge allegiance to?
And, what about the visiting squad? Paul Weaver currently leads the F.A.S.T. points lead, and he has some experience racing at the Park. He has scored several wins with the series so far, and he would like nothing better than to take the bacon home with him. Nate Dussel, Steve Rando, Dan McCarron, and Alvin Roepke fill out the top five in the F.A.S.T. standings. Other names familiar to Western PA fans include Bobby Clark and John Ivy, both of whom have raced in this area with some success. Will their prowess with 360 Sprints translate to the 305s? Also expected to race with the visitors is Landon LaLonde, who has made the journey to Mercer twice to get some valuable track time.
Also on the card will be those 4 Your Car Connection 410 Sprints. Jack Sodeman, Jr. has been on a hot streak lately, as he is gunning for his third point championship. A.J. Flick, Brandon and Brent Matus, Michael Bauer, and many more will be on hand.
Jimmy Holden and Kyle Fink are still battling for the points championship in the Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modifieds. Lonny Riggs, Tommy Kristyak, and Sid Unverzagt, Jr. will also be in contention for the win.
William Hurrelbrink is on pace to clinch his first track championship in the Precise Racing Products Open Stocks, but don’t count out defending champ Ryan Moyer just yet. Moyer, along with Shawn Smith, Curt Bish, Pat Fielding, Russ Byler, and Terry and Leigh Wheeler have all been remarkably fast, and any one of them could take Hurrelbrink down.
The two Sprint Car divisions will be racing in the evening segment of the program. Their racing will start at approximately 7 p.m.
Remember that the matinee will feature the Rock Concrete Modified Lites, Eperthener’s Auto Wrecking and Ray’s Racing Collectibles Mini Stocks, and the Elder Tractor Sales and Service Junior Sprints. They will get the green flag at 5:30 p.m. So, if you want to see these three star racers, come out early!
The pit gates will open at 3 p.m., and the spectator gates will open at 4 p.m.
Regular event ticket pricing will apply. Adult admission will be $13, seniors (60+) $11, and students (9-15) $5. Children (8 and under) will be admitted for free. The economical Family Pass will be just $28, and that will apply to two adults and up to four minors of any age. Pit Passes will be $30.
The next week, August 27, will be Championship Night. Double points will be on the line and the champions will be crowned! All seven divisions will be in competition. In addition, it will be the second Meet Your Heroes Night, presented by Herr’s, the official snack food of Mercer Raceway Park. Fans of all ages will get to mingle with their favorite drivers.
