Racing Resumes on American Cancer Society Racing for a Cure Night

(Mercer, PA July 13, 2017): After a short summer vacation, the racing community will assemble again at Mercer Raceway Park on July 15 for an exciting Saturday Night Live! program featuring some of the area’s best cars and stars. It will be Racing for a Cure night, so the American Cancer Society will be on hand to help celebrate the life of Karl Hennig, a long-time member of the Dionise Race Team. But the action will not be confined to the tricky Mercer oval. At intermission time, attention will be turned to the skies overhead, as Pizza Joe’s will present the annual fireworks display. And, what is more, two lucky children will leave the speedway with bicycles courtesy of Coca Cola.

Jack Sodeman, Jr. will lead the contingent of Precise Racing Products 410 Sprint Cars, and his protege, Darin Gallagher, will do the same in the Bonnell’s Rod Shop 305 Sprint Cars. Their rivals are close in the points chase, so, with a little luck, Michael Bauer (410 Sprints) or Gregg McCandless (305 Sprints) could move out front. The same could be true in the Rock Concrete Supply Modified Lites, where Bobby Springer holds a slim advantage, and in Ray’s Racing Collectibles/Eperthener’s Auto Wrecking Mini Stocks, where Bill Fuchs sits atop the rankings. Only Jimmy Holden has a pretty safe margin in the Turn 4 Toilets 358 Modifieds, but the racing for the win will still be intense.

The gates will open at 4 p.m., with practice and qualifications starting at 6:00. Heat racing will follow.

Despite the extras, this program will have regular event ticket pricing. So, adults can get the full experience for just $13, seniors (60+) for $11, and students (9-15) for $5. The younger set (ages 8 and under) will be admitted for free, as always. Families can take advantage of the special Family Pass, for only $28, and that will apply for two adults and up to four minors of any age. The Pit Passes will be $30.
