BRP Modified Tour Coming Saturday to Michaels Mercer Raceway

(Mercer, PA March 27, 2019): This Saturday, March 30, the throaty roar of Big Block Modifieds will be heard at Michaels Mercer Raceway. The opening event for the 2019 racing season will feature the BRP Modified Tour. The racing action will start at 7 p.m., with practice sessions commencing a half hour earlier. Pit Gates will open at 4 p.m., and the grandstands will be open at 5 p.m. “I am really excited about Saturday’s program,” said track owner Ed Michaels while taking a break from his final preparations for the big contest. “I’ve been a Modified fan all my life, and I’ve been looking forward to opening day ever since I bought the track in November of 2018. I couldn’t think of a better way to kick things off than this,” he added. The BRP Modified Tour brings together all of the area’s best Big Block Modified racers and it attracts many top drivers from the Empire state as well. “With no racing going on up north, we expect some invaders on Saturday.” The BRP Modified Tour has raced at the tricky Mercer oval 27 times over the years. The very first sanctioned contest was won by the legendary driver, Lou Blaney, in 1998. But another familiar name, Rex King, Sr., holds the top honors with six wins to his credit. Other winners in Mod Tour events were Kevin Bolland, Dave Murdick, Rex King, Jr., Jeremiah Shingledecker, Brian Swartzlander, Alan Dellinger, Russell King, Tommy Kristyak, Lonnie Riggs, Ron Smoker, and Erick Rudolph. Many of these stars still compete with the traveling series and are expected to be on hand. Other talents, like Jim Rasey, Brad Rapp, Kevin Hoffman, Tommy Mattocks, Rick Regalski, Jimmy Holden, and many more will be looking for their fist checkered flag of the year. Diehl Ram, of Grove City will be backing the Big Block Modifieds all season long at Michaels Mercer Raceway. Saturday’s race will not count towards the track championship, but that won’t deter the racers from putting forth the maximum effort to get the victory. The feature event will pay $2,000 to the winner, making the Chiller Thriller one of the region’s best paydays for the division. Also on the card will be the Turn 4 Toilet Rentals Fastrak Limited Modifieds, the Hards Welding and Fabrication and River Valley Butcher Block Racesaver 305 Sprint Cars, the Barris Trucking Modified Lites, and the Ray’s Racing Collectibles and Eperthener’s Auto Wrecking Mini Stocks. Ticket prices for this race will be just $15. Seniors (age 60 and over) will be admitted for $12. Children ages 13 and under will be admitted for free. Pit passes will be $35. Senior will receive a $5 discount for their pit passes. The race will have a rain date of April 13.
