For Immediate Release Media Contact: Lou Long (412-760-9755) Kid’s Night This Saturday at Michael’s Mercer Raceway (Mercer, PA June 4, 2019): Michaels Mercer Raceway will return to action, weather permitting, this Saturday, June 8, It will be a night to celebrate the young race fans and participants, as the children’s bicycle races will be added to the Fast Five program already scheduled. Parents must remember to bring helmets for their children to race their bicycles. Junior Sprints will return June 15th. “We couldn’t get those specials in last week due to the rain,” explained track owner Ed Michaels. “So, we decided to push everything back a week to give the youngsters their due. We thank Ray’s Racing Collectibles for providing special gifts and refreshments for all participants in the bike races.” “The weather has taken its toll so far this season,” Michaels noted with a hint of disappointment in his voice. “We have some great events coming up this month, though, so I hope that we get some dry days, so everybody can have some fun.” Because there have only been two full point events conducted at the track, the championship contests are all very close. Rex King, Jr., the winner of two races including the Chiller Thriller, leads his father, Rex Sr., by just tow markers in the Diehl Ram Big Block Modifieds. Dave Murdick and J.R. McGinley are close, and with a little luck, either of them could vault into the lead. A little further back sit Lonny Riggs, Brad Rapp, Bob Warren, Skip Moore, Rick Regalski, Tommy Marshall, III, and Will Thomas. But there are another dozen competitors who are likely to be in action. Who can get the big win? In the Turn 4 Toilets Fastrak Limited Modifieds, Shayne Izzo leads teh way although he has yet to capture a checkered flag. He has a six point margin over Brian Schaffer and an eight point lead over Jerry Schaffer. Eric Martin, Steve Slater, and Brian Sadler are in position to move ahead if they can put together some good runs. Michael Kristyak, Tom Urey, Jim Bryce, and Josh Hinchberger round out the top ten. Three drivers have risen to the top of the Racesaver 305 Sprints, which are presented by Hards Welding and Fabrication and River Valley Butcher Block. Will Flemming is the top points getter so far, but Jacob Gomola and Kyle Colwell are tied for second, just tow points behind. Teenager Chase Metheneyis fourth, and Andy Cavanaugh is tied for fifth with Vincent Daugherty. Greg Dobrosky has a win to his credit, but some misfortunes mean that he must make up a deficit if he wants to contend for the title. Toby Hanlon, Steve Cousins, and Jimmy Walker round out the top ten. The Barris Tricking Modified Lites have Shane Webb in the lead position. Jeff Davis trails by four points and Dusty Frantz is five counters out of the top spot. Ed Mudrick is tied with Jacob Isenhart and Jeff Haefke, who have split the driving chores in their car. Vivian Jones, Jacob Eakin, Jordan Simmons, Rod Jones, and Teddy Williams complete the top ten. The biggest advantage exists in the Mini Stock class, which is the pride and joy of Ray’s Racing Collectibles and Eperthener’s Auto Wrecking. Joe Campbell has a seven point lead over Steve Longwell, Sr. and Dewaye Redinger. Five drivers are bunched together in the race for fourth. They are Michael Porterfield, Johnny Bruce, David MacRae, David Coffin, and Phil King. Karlee Longwell, with an assist from her dad, Steve Jr., and Pete Blaczak make up the rest of the top ten. All of these racers, and many more, will be ready to go this Saturday when the pit gates open at 4 p.m. Spectator gates will open an hour later, at 5. Practice sessions will commence at 6:30, with heat races beginning at 7 p.m. The regular event ticket pricing will apply for this week’s event. That means that adults will be admitted for $12 and seniors (60+) for $10. All children under the age of 13 will be admitted for free with a paying patron. Pit passes will be $30, except for seniors (60+) and children (10 and under), who will receive a $5 discount. Coming up soon will be the Little Guy’s Summer Spectacular, on June 22, and the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series along with Micro Sprints, on June 29. There will be no racing on July 6, as the staff gets ready for the two-day Buddy Barris Trucking Memorial Summer Nationals Sprint Show on July 12 and 13.
