Fast Five Plus Junior Sprints on June 15 at Michaels Mercer Raceway

For Immediate Release Media Contact: Lou Long (412-760-9755) Fast Five Plus Junior Sprints on June 15 at Michaels Mercer Raceway (Mercer, PA June 12, 2019): With a favorable forecast for Saturday, everybody at Michaels Mercer Raceway is hoping to complete another Fast Five racing program with the addition of the Junior Sprints. “We haven’t had good luck with the weather so far when the Junior Sprints have been on the schedule,” Ed Michaels said, “but that should change this weekend.” Butler’s Dave Murdick wants to build on his recent success at the track. Murdick held off Rex King, Jr. to secure his first win of the season. King has two under his belt, with Garrett Krummert taking a victory. All are expected to be on hand, along with Rex King, Sr., who has yet to grace victory lane despite showing plenty of speed in his prior outings. Others likely to contend for the win are Jimmy Holden, who led briefly last week before retiring from the event. Brad Rapp, Lonny Riggs, J.R. McGinley, Kyle Fink, and plenty more will be on hand. The June 15 program will be the last chance for the Diehl Ram Big Modifieds to gather valuable championship points before a four-week hiatus. The Big Blocks will be off until July 20, when they return for a $3,000 to-win contest sanctioned by the BRP Modified Tour. That race will be the centerpiece of the Michaels Memorial Show sponsored by Erme’s Inc. Erik Martin scored his first career victory in the Turn 4 Toilets Fastrak Limited Modifieds last week, and he is hungry for more. He will be doing double duty again this week. The extra track time paid off for him, as he said in his post-race interview that he learned during the Diehl Ram Big Block race that he could drive deeper into the corners and he was able to carry that over to his Fastrak Limited Modified. Martin will square off against Shayne Izzo, Jerry and Brian Schaffer, Brian Sadler, Steve Slater, Brandon Ritchey, and many more this Saturday. They will be on the top of the card on June 22, when the track will host the Little Guys’ Summer Spectacular. That event will have nine different classes in action as a preview to the season-ending Little Guys’ Nationals. The Fastrak Limited Modifieds will also be in action on June 29, when the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series comes to town. Greg Dobrosky took his new Racesaver 305 Sprint Car to victory lane last week in the event offered by Hards Welding and Fabrication and River Valley Butcher Block. Will Fleming, Jacob Gomola, and Kyle Colwell have been in the thick of the action, too. Steve Cousins had his best performance of 2019 last week, a third place finish, and he will be looking to improve on that. Over a dozen of the region’s best winged cars are expected. These cars are fan favorites and it is easy to understand why. The action has been intense! Several competitors in the Barris Trucking Modified Lites will need to burn the midnight oil this week to get their cars ready for action on June 15. A handful of cars received major damage in a big wreck in last week’s feature, which was won by Rod Jones. Vivian Jones, his teenaged daughter, will be among the challengers, along with Shane Webb, Jason Darocha, Mark Marcucci, Ed Mudrick, Larry Bevivino, Ted and Teddy Williams, and Charlie and Mark Biskup, and over a dozen more. The Mini Stocks, presented by Ray’s Racing Collectibles and Eperthener’s Auto Wrecking, will be back in action. Shane Shook has a pair of wins, and Todd Hanlon has been to victory lane as well. Hanlon was leading the race last week when his car burst into flames. He brought the car to a safe stop, and he should be ready to go again this week. Joe Campbell, Mike Porterfiled, Bill Fuchs, Tim Callahan, and Steve Logwell, Sr. will be ready to take on all comers. A banner field of Mini Stocks is expected. The Junior Sprints are looking to get their first laps in for 2019. The program has graduated several drivers into the higher ranks of local racing, and it will be exciting to see the new group of competitors turned loose on the tricky Mercer oval. The Pit gates will open at 4 p.m. on June 15, and the spectator gates will open an hour later. Practice sessions will start at 6:30 and heat racing will begin at 7. Come out early to get the best seats! The June 15 program will have no increase in ticket pricing despite the addition of the Junior Sprints. Adult admission will be $12, and seniors (60+) will be admitted for $10. Children (13 and under) will be admitted for free with a paying guest. The Pit passes will be $30, except for seniors (60+) and children (ten and under) who will be admitted to the Pits for $25.
