By Jim Balentine Mercer, PA Penn/Ohio pro stocks return to Michael’s Mercer raceway + fast 5 Saturday July 25. After a big grand opening last Saturday night As we are honored the great Ralph Quarterson Michaels Mercer raceway roars back in action with a another star studded event with the Hooks family owned Penn/Ohio Pro stocks ready to invade Mercer Saturday night. The Penn Ohio pro stocks always bring a large gathering since the inception of the series back in 2013. The goal was to make every pro stock legal at every race track within a two hour radius and the hooks have succeeded in doing that with generally getting 30+ cars per event …and with a lot of sponsor help the payoffs are quite rewarding every night and at the end of the year. Legendary drivers that have competed at Mercer weekly and will be looking to defend their home turf include Multi time track champion Rusty Moore who has 38 career wins to his credit at Mercer ,Andy Buckley who has visited Mercer‘s victory Lane 34 times and was the big winner two years ago in the summer nationals event and also Alan Dellinger who has 24 career wins at Mercer. Some of the newer drivers who have been racing with the series is Andrew Gordon from Du Bois Pennsylvania who has won his fair share of events, Chris Schneider who is always upfront in every race he runs if he does not win that feature, and Tim Bish who can and has won on any given night . Tim Bish also picked up the win last week at a hummingbird speedway with 37 cars in attendance. You never know who is going to show up and win at a penn/Ohio pro stock event and this one should be another one for the record books!! Past Penn Ohio winners at Mercer include Tim Bish and Jackson Humanic in 2019; Tim Bish in 2018; Andy Buckley in 2016; Chris Schneider in 2015; and Chris Schneider and Shaun Fawcett in 2014. Also on tap will be our regular divisions of big block modifieds where Phill Vigneri will try to make it 2 for 2 after winning the Quarterson memorial last week; the Racesaver 305 sprints which will not be competing with 305 driver Brandon Hawkins who was tragically killed in a non-race related accident this past Monday .Young lion Chase Metheney picked up his first career win in the 305 last Saturday night here at Mercer; the mod lites will be back as Vivian Jones last year‘s champion tries for career win number eight at Mercer after winning last week; the Fastrak modified‘s were last week Eric Gabany picked up his 18th win by a narrow margin over Garrett Krummert ; and the mighty Mercer mini stocks who had Tim Callahan add to his winning total in feature wins last week along with last year‘s track champion Joe Campbell will be in attendance. Pit gates will open at 4 o’clock grandstands will open at five hot laps for the Penn Ohio stocks around 630 and racing to begin at seven Pit passes will be $30 and $25 for seniors 60+ Grandstand admission will be $15 and $13 for seniors 60+.
