Mercer pre-release for Saturday Aug 15 2020.

Mercer pre-release for Saturday Aug 15 2020. By Jim Balentine (Mercer,Pa) For the third time in the 2020 season the racing at Mercer has been close with lots of action I’m coming up this Saturday, August 15 should be no exception. Track owner Ed Michaels has once again added the 410 sprints to the regular show for this Saturday night paying $2000 to win. Also on the card will be the big block modifieds; the 305 sprints; the FASTRAK modifieds; mod lites and the mighty Mercer mini stocks. The question to be asked in the 410 sprints is who can stop Adam Kekich??? the third generation driver from Hermitage Pennsylvania has dominated the first two shows of 2020 and also winning the last show of 2019. And has done so in convincing fashion this past week lapping up to position number nine in the 25 lap feature event. Other drivers such as Carl Bowser ,Jack Sodeman Jr and Mike Bauer, who have one elsewhere the season, have  still been shut out of Mercer’s victory Lane …will that end this Saturday night? The big block modifieds should be renamed the I love New York big block modifieds as three different winners so far this season in three feature events have all come from the state of the Big Apple!! Phil Vigneri, Erick Rudolph, and most recently Chad Brachmann who won the annual Michaels memorial paying $5100 to win have been keeping the local contingent out of victory lane. Last years track champ Rex King Sr has had nothing but trouble so far in 2020 at the bent egg oval, his son Rex King Jr finished in the runner up position Saturday night, and Garrett Krummert has been in the top 5 all year. Will this be the week that a local driver keeps the money here at home ? The 305 sprints had a first time winner in Randy Sterling as he held off the charges of multi time feature winners Greg Dobrosky and Kyle Colwell. There hasn’t been a repeat winner so far in 2020 as Jake Gomola and Chase Metheney picked up the other 2 checkers. The FASTRAK modifieds finally had a new winner Saturday night as Chas Wolbert made a visit and it paid off as Eric Gabanys undefeated streak has been snapped!! Jordan Ehrenberg and Brandon Ritchey have had 3 top 5 finishes as well!! The mighty Mercer mini stocks again has a finish down to the wire as Mike Porterfield won his 2nd feature in a row this time holding back 15 to winner Pete Blaczak! 17 time winner Tim Callahan won opening night and Andy Thompson is the only other driver to have 3 top 5s out of the 38 drivers who have competed at Mercer this season. The mod lites will make their 3rd appearance of 2020 as last years champion Vivian Jones won opening night and fellow youngster Nathaniel Bale also nabbed his first ever win 2 weeks ago. Jason Gracey has bee in the top 5 both nights and Vivians brother Roman has been close as well Pits open at 4 pm Grandstands at 5 Hot laps for the Sprints at 6:30 Racing at 7 pm Grandstands admission is $15 for adults $13 for seniors Pits are $30 For more information on Mercer please visit our Facebook page or our website at www.mercerracewaypark.com.
