Mercer pre-release for Saturday Aug 29 2020. By Jim Balentine (Mercer,Pa)
As the end of summer approaches the 2020 action at Michael’s Mercer raceway has been hot and heavy with first time winners, last lap wins and lady luck emerging victorious..and coming up this Saturday, August 29 Track owner Ed Michaels will host the end of summer shootout featuring the big block modifieds; the 305 sprints; the FASTRAK modifieds; mini stocks and the junior sprints.
The previously scheduled 410 sprint car race for Saturday has been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict.
The King family has reigned supreme in the big block modifieds as last years track champ Rex King Sr picked up his 1st Mercer win of 2020 last week and his son Rex King Jr won the previous week. Can anyone dethrone the legendary family?
The 305 sprints honored their own Brandon Hawkins last week as it was all Jake Gomola until the last lap out of turn 4 where coming down for the checker! Gomola tangled with a lapped car ending his night handing the win to Greg Dobrosky for his first win of the season. Gomola is the only repeat winner the season in the highly competitive 305 sprints!!
The FASTRAK modifieds have had good turnouts every Saturday night with last years track champion Brian Schaffer finally picking up his 1st win of 2020 last week. First time winner 2 weeks ago Preston Cope and multi time winner Eric Gabany will be on the heels of last years champ.
The mighty Mercer mini stocks have had last lap excitement all year as veteran Will Aley beat DJ McCrae by a matter of inches. Every feature so far has gone down the the final 100 feet to determine a winner… will it happen again Saturday?
The junior sprints will make their 2nd appearance of 2020 featuring young racers from the ages of 7-13 in 9 and 12 hp motor action.
